Integration · Zed Editor

Add GSC PAP to Zed Editor

3 steps · about 4 minutes

Zed is a fast, open-source code editor with built-in AI assistant. It speaks MCP via its `context_servers` settings entry, same shape as the upstream MCP spec.

GSC PAP plugs in as a remote HTTP MCP. Three steps, no extensions to install.

Steps

  1. 1

    Open Zed settings

    Cmd/Ctrl + , opens the settings.json file. Zed uses a JSON config, no UI for MCP servers as of writing, you edit the file directly.

  2. 2

    Sign in to GSC PAP and copy your token

    Visit gscpap.com → Sign in with Google → grant Search Console + GA4 scopes → copy the bearer token from the connect page.

  3. 3

    Add gsc-pap to context_servers and restart Zed

    Add (or extend) the `context_servers` block. Replace YOUR_TOKEN with your bearer. Save the file, restart Zed, then open the AI assistant panel and ask a Search Console question.

    json
    {
      "context_servers": {
        "gsc-pap": {
          "transport": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://mcp.gscpap.com/mcp",
            "headers": {
              "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN_HERE"
            }
          }
        }
      }
    }

Common gotchas

  • ·Zed's MCP config schema has changed across releases. If `transport.type="http"` isn't accepted, check the Zed docs for the current shape, older versions used a different key name.
  • ·Zed reads settings.json on startup only. After edits, fully quit and relaunch (Cmd+Q on macOS).
  • ·If the AI panel doesn't show gsc-pap tools, Zed may not have loaded the server. Check Zed → Help → Open Logs for an error line containing `gsc-pap`.
